Don’t be a workaholic. Delegate authority with Workforce Central instead.

GettyImages-540799547Hey, you. Yeah, you! Are you supposed to be working today? If you’ve requested a long weekend following the Fourth of July but are still checking emails, approving timecards, or taking calls, this day is for you. Happy Workaholic’s Day!

Yes, today (July 5th) is National Workaholic’s Day. I’m not kidding!

Maybe work is what you love, and you’re happy to log on and do this or that for an hour or so on your days off. But you should know that you don’t have to be a workaholic when it comes to your workforce management responsibilities – reviewing time cards, approving time-off requests, checking schedules. Workforce Central allows managers to delegate authority and assign timekeeping and scheduling functions to a manager who will be in the office.

So, next time you take an extended family vacation, request backup coverage. Here’s how:

  1. Access Actions and then click Mgr_Delegation. If other delegation assignments exist, click Create New Delegation.
  2. From the Delegate drop-down list, select the manager to whom you’d like to delegate your tasks.
  3. Select the Start Date and End Date for the time you need assistance.
  4. Select the appropriate Role profile that includes the applicable Function Access and Display profiles for the tasks that you want to delegate to this manager. Contact your Kronos Administrator if the Role profile you require does not appear in the list.
  5. Click Save & Close. The delegation request is sent to the manager-delegate’s Request Manager widget.

Delegating Authority

After the delegation period ends and you’ve returned from vacation, delegated rights are removed and its business as usual again. If for some reason you end up back in the office earlier than expected – those workaholic tendencies can’t be tamed – it’s easy to manually cancel a manager backup request:

  1. Access Actions and click Mgr_Delegation.
  2. Select Remove Existing Delegation, and then click Next.
  3. Select the manager delegation that you want to cancel, and then click delete.

Canceling Authority

Delegating authority in Workforce Central is a handy feature for other situations that require extended leave as well; medical leave, conferences, and training, for example. The ability to transfer control helps to ensure that processes and procedures continue uninterrupted even while you’re not there.
