KRONOS SERVICE ALERT — Action May Be Required: Time-Sensitive Kronos InTouch and Kronos 4500 timeclock issue

December 16, 2015

Kronos InTouch and 4500 terminalsYou may have already received notification of this issue from our VP of Customer Support, but in case you didn’t and you have Kronos time clocks that look like either of these, this service alert is for you.

We want to alert Kronos InTouch and Kronos 4500 timeclock customers of an issue, addressed in Technical Advisory TA101347, which may affect secure communication between these timeclocks and Workforce Central®. The Certificate Authority/Browser (CA/B) Forum is the industry group that sets security and operational guidelines for digital certificates. To improve internet security, the CA/B Forum has mandated that on January 1, 2016, Certificate Authorities stop issuing trusted public certificates that use a SHA-1 hashing algorithm and only issue certificates that use a SHA-2 hashing algorithm.

If you have set up your Kronos InTouch or Kronos 4500 timeclock to use the Secure Hashing Algorithm SHA-1 certificate obtained from a public Certificate Authority, your timeclock certificates must be updated before they expire and must be running the Kronos software/firmware release required to support SHA-2. For more information, visit our Customer Portal and read Technical Advisory TA101347 or contact your support services group directly.

Please note:

  1. Customer action is required ONLY for InTouch or Kronos 4500 time clocks that have been set up to use secure communications with a SHA certificate obtained from a public Certificate Authority.
  2. There is no action required for Kronos iSeries or Kronos Workforce Ready® customers.
  3. Workforce Central customers in the Kronos private cloud have been contacted by their cloud customer manager to coordinate the action required to minimize impact.
  4. Time clock software / firmware required for SHA-2 is available on the Kronos Customer Portal to customers with an active Equipment Support Services Agreement.

Hi Georgette – Thanks for visiting and for your question. The 480 clocks are not impacted. Also please note that we no longer support 480 clocks.
