Thank you, President Johnson and President Ford

February 17, 2014

Pres Johnson and FordIt’s President’s Day, and while a holi-day for me, I’ve got numbers to hit, so I’m cranking one out for my six fans. Actually, there’re more than that, but hopefully they’re simply taking this day off… off. I hope to be out cross-country falling soon myself, but I wanted to thank a couple former presidents for my job. How’s that, you ask? Well, while other presidents get more press for their tech accomplishments like President Kennedy inspiring us to go to the moon, Truman presiding over the Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer, Nixon making tape recorders popular, and Clinton bringing us scandals via the internet, Presidents Johnson and Ford respectively, were in office at the start of two great American tech companies:Intel and Microsoft

  • Intel July 18, 1968
  • Microsoft April 4, 1975

Without them, Mark Ain may not have started Kronos to deliver and patent the first micro-processor based time clock and PC-based time and attendance product. Without that little ripple in the um, timeline of technology innovation, I wouldn’t be writing this, so thanks, and enjoy your day off.

Oh, fine… And thanks to President William Howard Taft who was in office when IBM was founded in 1911.
