Ice Cream Disruption

March 2, 2012

“Wanna get an ice cream, baby?” On that late summer afternoon, my toddler granddaughter smiled and wiggled affirmatively in her car seat. After a while we were trading loud “Who wants an ice cream?” for “Meeeeeeeee!” It was fun and good, but not without some disruption…

Recently I read that my early adopter 4G smartphone would be getting an update to Google’s Android 4.0 operating system, aka “Ice Cream Sandwich.” My HTC Thunderbolt is over a year old. Well over the hill for a phone, so I was happily surprised at the news. People in the industry wondered if the older hardware could even run the new software, but I guess it can…

Once the Ice Cream Sandwich is ready for my phone, a painless download will deliver the gooey chocolate and vanilla functionality like… Well, I don’t really know what new functionality there is, but I’ll be on the latest and greatest and I’m sure it will rock, right? Well, after I figure out how to use it and fix all the little annoyances I discover from incompatibility with my apps and customizations.

Upgrading enterprise software is a similar experience. It’s easy to load the new software, but the real work is in making sure existing hardware is sufficient, figuring out how to take advantage of the new capabilities, teaching employees how to use it, and tweaking it so it performs optimally. A software upgrade, whether for a smartphone or a workforce management system can be disruptive. That’s why we’re running a series of 30 minute upgrade mini-webinars to help our customers successfully upgrade to the tasty new capabilities of Workforce Central 6.3 with minimal disruption:

  1. Upgrading with Cloud Services – March 14th at 2:00 – 2:30 p.m. ET
  2. Optimizing Your Upgrade – March 20th at 2:00 – 2:30 p.m. ET

  4. Upgrading with Technology Services – March 28th at 2:00 – 2:30 p.m. ET

Meanwhile, back at the Cherry Hill Ice Cream Barn… Even in a kiddy dish, “Extreme Chocolate” kicks serious um, butt, blending dark chocolate ice cream with equally dark dashes of fudge and chocolate chunks… People, it’s dark and delicious, but was not without disruption. As I sat with granddaughter and chocolate drippings on my knee, the one piece picnic table literally sank underneath and tipped over on us! It was a scary ice cream disruption, but we, and the Extreme Chocolate were unhurt…
